Fake support account

A fake support account is a profile that presents itself as a platform's help desk - in chat, on social media or by email - in order to ask for a password, a verification code, a card number or a payment to release a locked account. Real support exists, but it is reached from the site's own help section, not through someone who contacts you first.

Where you see it

Usually as a direct message shortly after you complain publicly about a charge or a suspended account, as a reply from a lookalike handle on a social platform, or occasionally as an inbox message inside the site itself.

Why it matters

The request gives it away, not the profile picture. No legitimate support process needs your password or a one-time code, and none is paid through a personal transfer. Open a ticket from inside your account instead, and check any message claiming to be staff against the badge the platform puts on its own team.
