Age verification
Age verification is the check a platform runs to establish that a visitor is an adult. It ranges from a self-declared date of birth or a tick box through to an identity check that asks for a government ID document, a card check or a face-estimation scan. Which method you meet is decided by the operator and by the rules that apply where you are.

Where you see it
At the entrance to the site, again at the point of first payment on some platforms, or in a blocking screen that appears later when an operator changes its process.
Why it matters
The heavier methods hand a document or a biometric scan to a third-party verification provider rather than to the cam site, so what is stored and for how long sits in that provider's policy - worth reading before you upload anything. A site with no check at all is not doing you a favour; it says something about how it treats the rest of its obligations.
